Who Says You Can’t Enjoy Fall Colors in Santa Rosa Beach Florida?

Although when most of us think of fall colors, we envision large leaves changing into burnt oranges, yellows, and reds, those of us who are lucky enough to live at the beach year round can tell you ... fall is a colorful time around here too! It just comes in a different package.

The crisp, calm weather not only makes the Gulf more enjoyable, but the abundant seasonal color and beauty of fall-blooming native wildflowers creates a distinct beauty. For example, locals know the beautiful, blooming pink muhley grass is a true sign of fall.

In fact, at the beach, it's almost as if fall is a second spring! The native wildflowers, such as blazing star and goldenrod are in full regalia. These flowers among others have established some parts of Florida as a destination for wildflower tourism, much as New England is known for its fall foliage.

Many of these native plants also serve as hosts for pollinators as the fall season brings our area a flurry of butterfly activity, especially Monarchs during their annual migration south.

During this time of year, it’s not uncommon to see swarms of butterflies along 30A and many prominent neighborhoods in Santa Rosa Beach Florida have their own butterfly gardens that are definitely worth a visit during the fall months. Try the garden at WaterColor Florida just north of Cerulean Park and west of Marina Park . It's this "butterfly phenomenon" that is the inspiration behind the Flutterby Children’s Art Festival that takes place every November in Rosemary Beach, celebrating the Monarch migration

Butterflies and the native plants that support them come to the forefront during the fall season in Santa Rosa Beach Florida. While we are known for our spectacular beaches, it's our native plants and natural beauty that makes the 30A area truly special.
